Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plans (like an HMO or PPO) are other Medicare health plans that offer Medicare prescription drug coverage. You get all of your Part A and Part B coverage, and prescription drug coverage (Part D), through these plans. Medicare Advantage Plans with prescription drug coverage are sometimes called "MAPDs."

If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan and it offers this coverage, you must take the drug coverage your plan offers. Some Medicare Advantage Plans don't include prescription drug coverage. Other options for getting drug coverage include joining another Medicare Advantage Plan that offers prescription drug coverage, or returning to the Original Medicare Plan and joining a stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.
